Anti-Bullying Law

anti bullying

In January of 2011, the "Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act" became law. This important new law reinforces the River Vale School District's "Commitment to Excellence", respectful behavior and creating a safe school environment for all students. NJ School Districts will celebrate a "Week of Respect" annually, as well as, providing student assemblies to reinforce this goal.

A link to policies and procedures regarding harassment, intimidation and bullying are posted below. Parents are encouraged to join us in these efforts.

The River Vale School District conducts an annual re-evaluation, re-assessment, and review of the policy above pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:37-15 (c).

In addition, twice per year the district completes a standard self-assessment process, which is required by the State, completed by each school’s School Safety Team, approved by the Board of Education, and then submitted to the New Jersey Department of Education. This assessment grades each public school and the school district's efforts to implement the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act (ABR), and asks district’s to consider areas of strength, areas for growth, and ways to promote, maintain and improve school culture and climate.  Under the Commissioner's Program, the school grade is a raw score of data and the sum of the ratings for all indicators within each core element on the School Self-Assessment (ex: 65 of 78 points).  The maximum total score for a school is 78 points.  A minimum score of 50 is needed in order to meet all necessary requirements.  The school district's grade is an average of the total scores of all schools in the school district.
